Petrol Mercedes SL-class: what changes with a remap

Petrol engines are remapped by refining fuelling, ignition timing and, on turbocharged engines, boost control. Done carefully this releases performance the manufacturer left in reserve, giving sharper throttle response and a stronger top end.

How the Mercedes SL 600 394 compares

Of the 11 petrol SL-class engines in our data, this one comes 8th for power gain, which is 8 bhp below the SL-class petrol average of 28 bhp.

Across our whole catalogue the average petrol remap adds 27 bhp and 51 Nm, so this engine's 20 bhp and 35 Nm sits below that benchmark.
